NVQ Level 3 Certificate in Children and Young People's Workforce

Teaching-Assistant

Anyone who works or wants to work at a supervisory level in the children and young people’s

workforce. On completion you could work in the following job roles:

Supporting Teaching and Learning Workers – who visit families of pre-school children at home

Foster Carer

Registered Managers of Children’s Homes, plus Deputy and Assistant Managers

Residential Childcare Worker

Children and Family Court Advisory and Support Service Adviser

Community Care Officer

Professional Assistant

Family Centre Worker

To be awarded the NCFE Level 3 Diploma in Children and Young People’s Workforce, learners must achieve a minimum of 65 credits. 27 credits must be achieved by completing the mandatory units, then select the pathway units of which 13 credits must be achieved. The remaining credits must be achieved from the optional units. This qualification consists of:

11 Mandatory Units:

  • Promote communication in health, social care or children’s and young people’s settings
  • Engage in personal development in health, social care or children’s and young people’s settings
  • Promote equality and inclusion in health, social care or children’s and young people’s settings
  • Principles for implementing duty of care in health, social care or children’s and young people’s settings
  • Understand child and young person development
  • Promote child and young person development
  • Understand how to safeguard the wellbeing of children and young people
  • Support children and young people’s health and safety
  • Develop positive relationship with children, young people and others involved in their
  • Working together for the benefit of children and young people
  • Understand how to support positive outcomes for children and young people

Social Care pathway mandatory units

  • Assessment and planning with children and young people
  • Professional practice in children and young people’s social care
  • Promote the well being and resilience of children and young people
  • Learning, Development and Support Services pathway mandatory units
  • Support children and young people to achieve their education potential
  • Support children and young people to make positive changes in their lives
  • Professional Practice in learning, development and support services

Optional units

  • Enable parents to develop ways of handling relationships and behaviour that contribute to everyday life with children
  • Work with parents to meet their children’s needs
  • Engage parents in their children’s early learning
  • Work with parents, families and carers to support their children’s speech, language and communication development
  • Support speech, language and communication development

All candidates must be 16+ years old and have no criminal records.

All candidates must have a good understanding of written and spoken English.

The Level 5 Diploma in Leadership for Health and Social Care and Children and Young People’s Services (90 credits) or a Foundation Degree.
